Daedalochila auriculata Laying Eggs

    The specimen below was taken into captivity from the roadside swale along County Road 13 in far western St. Johns County, Florida during early January, 2010 and maintained in a makeshift terrarium with about a dozen of its peers. The group were then monitored on a periodic basis. During the morning of 1/29/2010 the illustrated specimen was found to be in the process of depositing eggs near the side of the terrarium - with  total of four eggs present. The specimen measures about 15 mm. in length while the eggs measured about 2 mm.
