Mesodon thyroidus (Say, 1817) White-lip Globe

The four adult Mesodon pictured below were found in the flood plain of Little Black Creek in Clay County, Florida on 6/27/2021. Interestingly, three of the four (and one additional small juvenile specimen not pictured) were found in trees or on a man made pole a considerable distance above ground. The three are shown in situ in the bottom three images. Of note was the fact that one of the adult tree climbing specimens was about 9-10 feet above ground. It's not unprecedented for Mesodon at this location to climb trees to escape rising creek water in their flood plain habitat. However, in this particular instance several consecutive days of heavy rain did not result in any actual flooding of the habitat. Maybe just the mere presence of prolonged heavy rain itself prompted the snails to seek higher ground to escape drowning even when there was no actual existing threat.
