Pink Sundew [Drosera capillaris]

This diminutive (about 25 mm.) specimen was photographed by Joel Wooster in a pine forest in far west Volusia County (26.55056N 081.08729W) near Osteen, Florida. The surfaces of the leaves are covered with hair-like tentacles at the end of which is a red gland which produces a small, clear, glistening sticky drop of dew. Passing insects mistake the dew for nectar and subsequently become trapped..
