Pomacea canaliculata (Lamarck, 1822) Deceased Parent With Egg Clutch

This deceased female was found as pictured on the bank immediately adjacent to the drainage ditch just south of the concrete box culvert on 8/27/2005. Following a rain storm, which raised the water level, she apparently crawled to the waters edge to deposit an egg clutch on an exposed root. For whatever reason she expired prior to completing her motherly duties and was left as shown when the water level receded. When found, the specimen was in the process of being devoured by one the areas very plentiful ant colonies.
