Pomacea paludosa (Say, 1829) Florida Applesnail Juveniles

These juveniles were hatched in an aquarium at the photographer's residence from egg capsules obtained from Lake Oneida, University of North Florida, Duval Co., Florida. They initially thrived and fed on fresh iceberg lettuce. However, within three weeks they had all perished.  The poor condition of the shells likely indicates that a necessary component to facilitate their continued development was not present in the aquarium. Young adult specimens, with which they shared the aquarium, were not similarly affected. Photographed on 6/23/2005.
