Veronicella sloanii (Cuvier, 1817)

This single specimen, measuring about 65 mm. in length, was found by Robert Pilla under leaf litter in Matheson Hammock (Coral Gables), Miami-Dade County, Florida during mid-October, 2008. Digital images by Robert Pilla. Through use of the images, the slug was tentatively identified by the USDA as Veronicella sloanii which they consider as one of the most serious agricultural threats from the Caribbean Basin. Subsequently, a USDA pest survey team from Miami was dispatched to the hammock and nearby locations to search for additional specimens. However, no specimens were found.
