Bulimulus sporadicus (d’Orbigny, 1835) Large Specimen

Bulimulus sporadicus (d’Orbigny, 1835) Large Specimen

Examination of many thousands of Bulimulus sporadicus shells between 2/2009 and 12/2019 indicates the species can attain a length of at least 30 mm. in northeast Florida with most being considerably smaller. Pictured above is the largest intact specimen found during ten years of field surveys. It was found in the roadside swale along Beach Boulevard in Jacksonville during December, 2019. A potentially even larger but damaged shell was found in downtown Jacksonville on 12/26/2011. See: Bulimulus sporadicus (d’Orbigny, 1835).
