Brevard Co., Florida, Canaveral Peninsula, Canaveral Air Force Station/Kennedy Space Center, both sides of Lighthouse Rd. just NW Launch Pad no. 17. 28.26856N 080.34149W. Open grassy areas alive on short plants bearing yellow flowers. E. W. Cavin, E. Cavin, A. Gettleman, H. Lee, W. H. McCullagh, Jr.! 7 June, 2008. Note marked pallor of animal vs. nearby colony in a less sun-exposed habitat. A parallel situation has been observed in D. auriculata. This phenomenon may be the consequence of natural selection to limit desiccation resulting from solar radiation.
