Southern Black Racer [Coluber constrictor priapus] |
| This three foot long specimen was encountered adjacent to a lake/retention pond in southeastern Duval County, Florida on 12/27/2005 while the photographer was searching for aquatic mollusks. The specimen was obviously enjoying the bright sunshine following a cold night, seemed unaware of the photographers close presence, and neither noise nor vibration had any effect. However, a slight "poke" with the photographer's collecting apparatus immediately caused a high speed retreat. |
