Viviparus georgianus (I. Lea, 1834) Family Portrait

    The 24 mm. adult specimen (pictured below, left) was collected on 11/1/2005 in a small creek in southeastern Duval County, Florida. When the animal was removed, the three illustrated juvenile specimens were found inside. Members of the family Viviparidae brood their young internally and subsequently produce living young instead of laying eggs.
