Pomacea canaliculata At St. Augustine Road Fish Management Area Page Five

A second hatching experiment was conducted employing a mating pair of Pomacea canaliculata that was found along the lake shoreline and taken into captivity. The female immediately deposited an egg clutch that was monitored to observe hatching success/growth. In this second experiment a vast majority of the individual eggs hatched successfully and demonstrated normal growth on a diet of Romaine lettuce. The image below shows some of the hatchlings on 10/9/2007 - some five weeks after hatching. The screen mesh is about 1 mm. square.
