Belocaulus angustipes Black-velvet Leatherleaf Feeding On Deceased Member Of Its Own Species

This specimen was found feeding on a deceased desiccated member of its own species on the sidewalk adjacent to 1802 Cortez Road in southeastern Jacksonville, Duval County, Florida on 7/11/2013. This cannibalistic behavior has been observed on three separate occasions at this location during 2013 but had not been observed previously. For whatever reason, the Belocaulus population at the Cortez Road site has exploded during 2013 thus leading to the presence of a large number of deceased specimens both on the road as well as the sidewalk.
