Southeastern Five-lined Skink [Eumeces inexpectatus]

    This speedy and difficult to approach specimen was photographed on the campus of the University of North Florida in southeastern Duval County, Florida on 5/27/2005. The species is quite common at that location but is quite rare at most other nearby areas. Notice the orange colored external parasites between the "toes" on the hind foot [lower right below].
