Daedalochila auriculata at Picolata, St. Johns County, Florida

    During a field survey on October 9, 2010 this reporter discovered a population of Daedalochila auriculata (Say, 1818) in the roadside swale on the west side of County Road 13 within the town limits of Picolata (GPS: 29.54472N 081.35326W - WGS-84 Datum). The location is about 150 yards south of the intersection of County Road 13 and County Road 208 and is adjacent to the eastern shoreline of the St. Johns River. Although no living specimens were found, eleven empty Daedalochila auriculata shells were eventually located. During a follow-up visit on 10/13/2010, three additional empty shells were found in the same area.
