Hatton Chase lake Pomacea with newly grown operculum

Following its collection on 7/19/2006, the non-operculate specimen was brought home in placed in a small makeshift glass aquarium filled with Zephyrhills natural spring water and fed a steady diet of fresh iceberg lettuce. When examined closely nearly a month later (8/17/2006), it was discovered that the specimen had grown a normal looking operculum - although it appeared to be somewhat smaller and thinner than one would expect for a snail of this size.
