Cochlicopa morseana (Doherty, 1878) Appalachian Pillar Juvenile

    The pictured juvenile, measuring 1.0 mm., was hatched in captivity from an egg deposited by an adult specimen collected from wrack along  Harrison Creek, Harrison Fork Road, Nelson County, Kentucky, February 19, 2016 (see previous two pages). The top two images show the juvenile at 12 hours after hatching while the bottom four images show snail 48 hours after hatching. Digital images by Lori Schroeder.

    The egg pictured above was deposited in captivity by an adult specimen from Nelson County, Kentucky and was photographed less than 24 hours later. The egg measured 1.0 mm. Photography by Lori Schroeder.

Cochlicopa morseana egg 21 days after being laid. The developing snail's eyespots are clearly visible.
