Daedalochila auriculata (Say, 1818) Ocala Liptooth

Along US-1 South Southeast Of International Golf Parkway, St. Johns County, Florida

During a terrestrial mollusk survey on 11/21/2015, a Daedalochila auriculata population was discovered along the west side of US-1 about 2.8 miles south southeast of International Golf Parkway, St. Johns County, Florida (GPS: 29.584624N 081.214559W). At the site, US-1 spans a west to east flowing drainage ditch. Several dozen Daedalochila auriculata were found at the site to include empty shells and living adults and juveniles. Although a few Daedalochila were found in the roadside swale (pictured blow), the majority of the specimens were found in the swampy area between the road and the Florida East Coast Railroad tracks which parallels US-1 to the west. Surprisingly, empty Daedalochila auriculata shells were also found on the other side of the tracks - even further west.
