Allopeas gracile (Hutton, 1834) Graceful Awlsnail Eggs

Between 9/28-10/6/2014 this reporter collected a large number of  live Allopeas gracile from beneath debris along the CSX Transportation railroad tracks near Haines Street in downtown Jacksonville, Duval County, Florida. Also present were a significant number of Huttonella bicolor (Hutton, 1834) Two-tone Gullela. The Allopeas gracile  were placed in alcohol and subsequently air dried. It then became apparent that a number of the specimens had at least one egg inside their shells (see image below).

The Allopeas gracile shells were then mailed to Lori Schroder in Kentucky who extracted eggs from the shells, dissected the eggs, and photographed the unborn juvenile (see bottom image).
