Common/White Checkered Skipper [Pyrgus communis/Pyrgus albescens]*

This diminutive specimen was photographed on 4/8/2007 in a drainage ditch in southeastern Jacksonville, Duval County, Florida. The prevailing cool temperature obviously made the specimen somewhat lethargic and thus easy to approach for photography.

*According to Daniels (2003) "The two sibling species can be reliably differentiated only through dissection."
