Succinea campestris Say, 1818 Crinkled Ambersnail On Unusual Substrate

While searching for land snails in the back dunes at Mayport Naval Station beach, Duval County, Florida on 12/8/2007, the writer spotted a single turkey feather. After having actively searched for land snails at this location for 17 years (not to mention many other locations within the county) and never previously having seen any evidence what so ever of wild turkeys, he retrieved the feather for closer examination. On the underside of the feather was a single small Succinea campestris taking advantage of this most unusual substrate to snooze away the day.
