The Family Strombidae

Two Strombus species in the Lake Worth Lagoon, Palm Beach Inlet, Palm Beach County, Florida

    The image above shows the massing of at least two Strombus species in the Lake Worth Lagoon, Palm Beach Inlet, Palm Beach County, Florida. The gaggle was photographed by Brenda Hill while SCUBA diving in the lagoon on October 20, 2019. Present in the image are Strombus alatus Gmelin, 1791 [Florida Fighting Conch], Strombus pugilis Linnaeus, 1758 [West Indian Fighting Conch], and possibly Strombus pugilis x alatus [Hybrids] which are not uncommon at this locality.
