During the
evening of 5/31/2007 three Euglandina rosea were taken into
temporary custody for the purpose of a photo shoot the next morning.
Subsequently the next day, the three eager specimens were released and
placed on a tree stump to complete the assignment. During this
operation one of the three encountered a specimen of the exotic snail
Bradybaena similaris
(Férussac, 1821) [below top row, left) - the preferred food source of
local Euglandina. The Bradybaena appeared to recognized
its peril and attempted an escape (below, top row, right). The
Euglandina appeared ready to administer the
coup de grâce
[bottom row, left] but apparently decided
that a hasty escape was more important than an impromptu meal [bottom
row, right]. |
