Glyphyalinia wheatleyi (Bland, 1883) Bright Glyph

    Glyphyalinia wheatleyi are carnivores that feed on microscopic snails. Pictured below are the remains of four live snails introduced into terrarium of the 3.6 mm. live specimen pictured on the previous page. The shell damage and method of attack is consistent.

    Glyphyalinia wheatleyi predation attempts, for whatever reason, are not always successful. Pictured below is a Gastrocopta contracta (Say, 1822) which survived such an encounter. The arrows show where the Glyphyalinia made an unsuccessful attempt to penetrate the shell of the Gastrocopta.
