Planorbella duryi (Wetherby, 1879) Seminole Rams-horn
form seminolis [scalariform morph]

Planorbella duryi (Wetherby, 1879) Seminole Rams-horn

Alive on shoreline, Lake Oneida, University of North Florida Campus, Duval Co., Florida 2/22/2005

This morph bears a striking resemblance to Planorbella scalaris (Jay, 1839) of south Florida. The latter is usually more narrowly umbilicate and generally with the posterior aperture margin protruding more than the anterior shell margin (when viewed from the spire end) while this morph is usually more widely umbilicate and generally with the anterior aperture margin protruding more than the posterior shell margin.
