Euglandina rosea (Férussac, 1821) Damaged Shell

In the roadside swale along US-1 about 3.1 miles northwest of International Golf Parkway, St. Johns County, Florida, 8/30/2018. The damage was likely caused by periodic mowing of the swale habitat by county or contract personnel.  In the case of larger more substantial specimens, the shells are generally reduced to a pile of fragments. The venomous Florida Cottonmouth snakes which share the habitat are chopped to pieces during the mowing.
