Brown Anole [Anolis sagrei sagrei]

This  inquisitive specimen was photographed on the limb of a fig tree in southestern Jacksonville, Duval County, Florida on 12/31/2006. A Bahamian | Cuban native, it was first reported in Duval County in 1985 and subsequently made its appearance in the photographer's neighborhood in 2000. Initially the population consisted of a limited number of adult specimens. However, in the ensuing period, the population has exploded and it's not unusual to see dozens of specimens of all age groups in a small area. The species shares habitat with the native Green Anole [Anolis carolinensis] but is a much more prolific/aggressive species and seems to thrive in a wider variety of habitats.
