The following are reported from Big Torch Key:
The L. f. crassus seems to be a distinct variety that has also been found on Big Pine Key and No Name Key. I'm calling it "L. f. crassus, Big Torch variety." It is characterized by weak bronzy basal lines. I'm calling the unknown variety from Big Torch "Liguus fasciatus, Ramrod variety" for now. It seems to have occurred on Big Torch and Ramrod. The Big Torch L. f. vonpaulseni is similar to the one from nearby Middle Torch Key, the type locality for the form. The illustrated L. f. crassus was collected in the 1960s on Big Torch Key by Emilio Power. The L. f. vonpaulseni was collected by Ben Anlage of Miami in 1987. Images of all illustrated specimens, with the exception of L. f. vonpaulseni, are courtesy of Emilio Power. (PP) |
