Eastern Garter Snake [Thamnophis sirtalis sirtalis] Albino

This albino Eastern Garter Snake (about twelve inches long) was photographed by this reporter outside his front door in Jacksonville, Duval County, Florida on June 4, 2006. This is the third albino example of this species that has been found at this locality within the past year. Apparently there is more than one adult Garter Snake in the area that carries the recessive albino gene thus explaining why the mutants are periodically found.
