Euglandina rosea (Férussac, 1821) Variability

These seven specimens were collected from a single location (Bass Haven Lane - Site #3) in far western St. Johns County, Florida on 9/11/2010 and illustrate the variability in shell coloration and shape that can exist in a single population. Three of the larger specimens were dissected and were found to have been feeding on Polygyra cereolus (Mühlfeld, 1816)  / septemvolva Say, 1818. The specimen pictured on the bottom left, which measured 42 mm., also had a single fresh Daedalochila avara (Say, 1818) in its gut (view an image of the specimen and its gut contents).
