Mediterranean Gecko - [Hemidactylus turcicus (Linnaeus, 1758)]

The two specimens pictured below were photographed at this reporters residence in southeastern Jacksonville, Duval County, Florida on June 2 and July 2, 2014, respectively. According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, this exotic species has been found in Florida since 1910 and has been present in Duval County (Jacksonville) since at least 1970. The specimens that were photographed during June and July are the first seen by this reporter in northeast Florida. This may be partially explained by the fact that the species is nocturnal. The Mediterranean Gecko has also been reported from Clay County in northeast Florida (Keystone Heights - 2001).
