Mesodon thyroidus (Say, 1817) White-lip Globe

     This frisky pair were found up a tree about five feet above ground in close proximity to each other, flood plain of Little Black Creek, County Road 220 0.2 miles NW of Knight Boxx Road, Clay County, Florida, 8/4/2021. The species routinely climbs trees during  periods of prolonged heavy rain to escape possible drowning by rising water in their habitat. During the 8/4/2021 trip a total of nine Mesodon were found in trees up to about 12 feet above ground. Usually when found in trees the snails are inactive/aestivating but during this particular trip eight of the nine were actively crawling about.
