Triodopsis species "Florida Scrub Threetooth"

Pictured below is a live ca. 25 mm. Euglandina rosea (Férussac, 1821) [Rosy Wolfsnail] and two empty Triodopsis species shells found beneath a small piece of lumber just south of Fort Lauderdale Street between Avenues A and B, Camp Blanding Joint Training Center, Clay County, Florida on 12/14/2013. One additional live juvenile Triodopsis was also present. It appears likely that the carnivorous Euglandina had made a meal of one or both of the Triodopsis. Native terrestrial species other than Triodopsis are extremely rare in the Trail Ridge Formation habitat of the "Florida Scrub Threetooth." This lack of predators and competition for food may partially explain why the Triodopsis can be readily found where conditions are suitable. Interestingly, despite the presence of Euglandina in the Camp Blanding habitat, the same date 13 live Triodopsis were found under a small log not 20 feet away from the pictured specimens.
