Articulating Surface Of  Marine Mammal (Cetacean) Vertebra

Uncommonly found in local sheltered waters, these flat disk like objects range in size from about 25 mm. to as large as the illustrated specimen which is probably from a porpoise.  They ultimately fuse with the body of the vertebral bone, but in young animals come free quite easily following their death/decomposition.
