Black Vulture [Coragyps atratus]

The illustrated specimen is but one of a flock of about eight that were discovered feeding on a deceased raccoon (road kill) near a lake on the campus of Florida State College Jacksonville in southeastern Duval County, Florida on 4/29/2006. In the past the species had proven difficult to approach closely for photography.  However, in this particular instance the flock seemed to be more curious than afraid.
