Pomacea paludosa (Say, 1829) Florida Applesnail Eggs In situ

Unlike the exotic Pomacea canaliculata (Lamarck, 1822) [Channeled Applesnail], also found in Duval County, Pomacea paludosa are usually quite particular as to where they will deposit their egg clutch. However, when the breeding snail population exceeds readily available suitable substrate, unconventional materials may be pressed into service such as the cast off food wrapper shown below containing a freshly deposited egg clutch.
