Busycotypus canaliculatus (Linnaeus, 1758) In Situ

During a visit to the Michael B. Scanlon Boat Ramp on the St. Johns River in Mayport village, Jacksonville, Duval County, Florida on 2/5/2013 several boxes of discarded mollusks were found near a trash receptacle. While most of the specimens were deceased, several of the Busycotypus canaliculatus appeared to be still viable and were returned to the water. A return visit to the site 2/7/2013 showed that at least one of the specimens had survived and was adapting to its new home as shown above.
