Crepidula fornicata (Linnaeus, 1758) Common Atlantic Slippersnail

Mayport Naval Station Beach, Jacksonville, Duval Co., Florida 3/20/2008. The group, encompassing all sizes from tiny juveniles to adults, were on the dorsum of a large (about 60 mm.) crabbed Neverita duplicata (Say, 1822) [Shark Eye]. Interestingly, the aperture and ventral aspect of the Neverita was colonized by a different Crepidula species - either Crepidula atrasolea Collin, 2000 [Blackfoot Slippersnail] or Crepidula depressa  Say, 1822 [Depressed Slippersnail]. A positive identification is difficult under field conditions.
