Euglandina rosea (Férussac, 1821) Predation On Daedalochila sp. aff. hausmani (Jackson, 1948)

This Euglandina was found beneath a thistle in the roadside swale on Imeson Road in western Jacksonville, Duval County, Florida on 3/21/2013. When dissected, the snail's gut contained one Polygyra cereolus (Mühlfeld, 1816), one Daedalochila sp. aff. hausmani, and two unidentifiable shell fragments. Previously on 3/18/2013, a similarly sized Euglandina was collected from the D. sp. aff. hausmani habitat along Imeson Road. However, the gut of that specimen contained five Polygyra cereolus but no Daedalochila. Interestingly, the Daedalochila habitat on imeson road has been surveyed on a regular basis since 3/7/2010 and the two Euglandina found on 3/18 and 3/21/2013 are the only specimens (living or dead) ever found.
