Euglandina rosea (Férussac, 1821) Predation On Drymaeus dormani (W. G. Binney, 1857)

The small juvenile Euglandina rosea was taken into captivity along US-1 near the intersection with Stratton Road, St. Johns County, Florida during early November, 2017. The Drymaeus dormani [Manatee Treesnail] were collected from palm fronds about 12 feet off the ground along International Golf Parkway in Twelve Mile Swamp, St. Johns County, Florida about a week later. Although the pictured Euglandina was not collected in the swamp, the resident Euglandina population within the swamp are frequently found in trees some distance above the ground presumably hunting for the not uncommon tree snails. Following the attack pictured below, this reporter intervened to spare the tree snails from being eaten alive.
