Green Anole [Anolis carolinensis]

This specimen was found on a patio in east Duval County. The species may change its color at will to better blend in with its surroundings. However, the species often takes on green coloration while present on brown colored objects and brown coloration while present on green colored objects. The Green Anole is gradually being supplanted in northeast Florida by the non-native Brown Anole [Anolis sagrei sagrei] - a much more aggressive species from Cuba.
